The Smoking Club

I found this amusing graffiti in a vintage textbook from the late 1800s. I think that they reveal more creativity and humor than just drawing on a mustache and beard. I suppose that would have been redundant with the abundance of facial hair during this time period. I like the silly little hats.

!! I just peeked at livejournal for the first time in ages, saw your post, and followed the link to this amazingly hilarious and wonderful entry! I am utterly thrilled to see this kind of “graffiti” in the old books I collect too. I have to say this tops all of the examples I’ve ever found! I love Sir Walter Scott’s deluxe pipe…haha.

That deluxe pipe is hilarious. The women had teeny tiny pipes. These are the most amusing book pages I’ve found so far except for a quite politically incorrect, completely absurd, and possibly offensive collage in a Victorian scrapbook.
